Rose in the Mud
Written by Adrienne Leopold © 2005
There were times in my life I was so down the ground was my sky Filled with disbelief I couldn’t see past wondering why Disappointment and shame and feeling to blame were my best friends But dwelling on things would only bring them back again.
So I took a chance, took a second glance at what’s inside A soul tough as nails always prevails every time I thought if I tried it’s possible I might break free So with all of my might I looked to the light to save me.
Chorus A rose in the mud Stuck in a spot can’t get out of Weighing on me, drowning my dreams like a great flood But I’ll use my strength to shake it all off and be proud of Beauty misjudged Like a rose in the mud.
Looking at me today you’d say there’s no way I was once low I used to be small, but now I stand tall and I’m still growin’ Stopped letting the hurt and all of the dirt get in my way Learned from the wrong how to be strong, now I'm not afraid.
Chorus
So when you see someone like me down on their luck Give ‘em a hand, try to understand that they’re just stuck It could be you trying to break through out of a rut Momentarily lost Like a rose in the mud.
Chorus x2
